About

Find out more about our club

Lacetown Archers is a friendly and social archery club with a diverse membership that includes a mixture of young and old, beginner and experienced, who all shoot together. Our club ethos is very flexible and pressure free, so our new members can enjoy learning archery entirely at their own pace.

We shoot all types of bow styles, including recurve, compound, barebow and longbow so, if needed, there will always be someone who can give you advice on your particular bow type.

We are based near Honiton in East Devon, but we have members who travel from as far afield as Teignmouth, Exeter, Taunton and Yeovil.  If you can get to us, then you are welcome.

During the summer, club nights are on Mondays and Thursdays, from 18:00 until dusk, at our field near East Hill Strips, near Honiton.

During the winter, club nights are on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 18:00 till 22:00, in a hall in Sidbury, near Sidmouth.

You don’t need to come along for the whole session. You can just turn up, enjoy shooting and catching up (and sometimes cake!) and head home when it suits you.

To join our club, you will either need to have completed an approved beginners’ course from another archery club, or complete (and pass) the course at our club first.

For more information please send us an email.

Beginners’ course

Our enthusiastic, encouraging and qualified Archery GB coaches run our beginners’ course in the autumn on Tuesdays from 19:00 till 20:30. The course duration is approximately five weeks and a certificate will be issued on completion. You will need to wear comfortable and warm clothes that are not too loose, and all equipment is provided. We usually run two date options, which are:

Option one: early October to mid November

or

Option two: mid November to early December

During the course you will learn everything you need to get you started in the sport of archery, including important safety rules, how to set up a bow, and the basics in shooting techniques, including the importance of a consistent form and how to use a sight. It is a hands-on, practical course, so you will be shooting arrows each week from the outset, at distances of up to 20 yards.

Archery is an enjoyable, accessible and low impact sport that can be played year-round. Suitable for all ages (from approximately 10 years old) with no upper limit, it is an excellent choice for improving both physical and mental wellbeing. Why not give it a go? Whether you want to learn to shoot competitively or just for fun, once you try it, we promise you’ll be hooked.

For this year’s specific dates, an up-to-date cost and any further information about our beginners’ course, please contact us.
